How did you hear about Buddies?
Fate led me to Wayne's "Here Lies Henry" display at the
Toronto Reference library. I was interested in getting involved
in the local theatre scene, and in reading about Daniel MacIvor's
humble beginnings at Buddies, I decided that the theatre might
be a good way to gain some practical experience.
What department do you volunteer with most,
what one key thing have you learned?
I assist Wayne in the administration department - primarily
with the coordination of the Superstar Santa Auction (which
was a smashing success last month). While the most obvious
skills gleaned from this experience would be related to fundraising,
I find it difficult to pinpoint just one... as there have
been many.
Have you enjoyed yourself so far?
Absolutely. There have been few work environments that are
as warm and welcoming as Buddies has been over the course
of my time here.
Elena Berlanda Age: 24
How did you hear about Buddies?
The Rhubarb! Festival was one of the first theatre events I attended
in Toronto and I became interested in the work that Buddies
does.
Was the process to start volunteering at Buddies
easy or difficult? What was your process?
It was quite easy. I indicated that I was interested in volunteering
and within weeks I was helping with the Santa Auction.
What department do you volunteer with most,
what one key thing have you learned?
I volunteered for the Santa Auction. One of the key things
for me was going our to speak to businesses directly to solicit
donations, to tell them about Buddies and to interact with
them in person.
